Welcome to Donacloney Presbyterian Church. If you’re visiting for the first time or exploring what church might be like, we’re delighted you’re here. This page will help you know what to expect on a Sunday — from where to park and where to sit, to how our services run and the ways we seek to worship God together as a church family in Donacloney.
What to Expect When You Visit
Our morning service begins at 11.30am, and evening services begin at 6.30pm. Most people arrive about ten minutes beforehand, but you’re very welcome to come earlier if you prefer. For special services or larger gatherings (such as funerals), arriving a little earlier can make things easier. If you’re running late, please don’t worry — simply come on in.
There is a large car park directly across the road from the church building. If you need to park closer, there is also limited space inside the gates around the church. Our welcome team can help you if you’re unsure where to go.
You’re free to sit wherever you like, downstairs or upstairs. Some people naturally sit in the same place each week, but there is no reserved seating. During busy services, our welcome team at the entrance will gladly help you find an available seat.
Our services follow a simple, meaningful pattern designed to help us worship God together:
Welcome & Call to Worship
The minister or speaker welcomes everyone and shares a Bible verse or opening thought that introduces the theme of the service.
Announcements
These highlight what’s happening in our organisations during the week and upcoming events in the congregation and wider church.
Prayers
At several points throughout the service, the minister or speaker leads in prayer. People usually bow their heads and close their eyes as we pray together.
Congregational Singing
We sing a mix of modern worship songs, traditional hymns, and metrical Psalms. The words are displayed on the screens. Music is usually led by piano, guitar, organ, and sometimes drums. We normally stand when the music begins and sit again when it ends.
Bible Readings
You’re welcome to bring your own Bible or use a Bible app. The readings are also shown on the screens. We normally use the New International Version (NIV). The main passage for each Sunday is often listed on our website’s home page if you’d like to read it in advance.
Sermon
The minister or speaker preaches from one of the Bible passages read earlier. The sermon typically lasts around 30 minutes, and key points or images are displayed on the screens to help you follow along.
Benediction
After the final song, we remain standing for the closing prayer (the benediction). As a church family, we say the words aloud together; they are shown on the screens.
Wear whatever feels comfortable for you. Some people dress casually, others prefer their “Sunday best” — everyone is welcome.
There is a collection box at the entrance for anyone who wishes to give an offering. You’re welcome to give if you want to, but there is no pressure. On special occasions, collection plates may be passed around during the service — again, please feel free to let the plate pass by if you prefer not to give. Some people use envelopes so we can record donations and claim Gift Aid where appropriate.
Children and babies are always welcome! If you need to slip out during the service, there are rooms at the rear of the church building you can use. You can reach them through the doors beside the pulpit or by walking around to the rear side door.
During the morning service, we include a children’s address — a short Bible message prepared especially for younger listeners. Children may be invited to come to the front so they can see something up close. This is followed by a children’s song. After this, children can go to the rear part of the building for Sunday School.
Toilets are located in the rear part of the church building. You can reach them through the doors beside the pulpit or by going back out through the entrance and around to the rear side door.
A normal Sunday service lasts about 1 to 1¼ hours. On special occasions — and sometimes at evening services — we have refreshments afterwards, either in the rear part of the church building or down in the church hall. You’re warmly invited to stay and chat.
